A Day Book of sorts -
My husband had planned to mow today, one last time, but -
We are shoveling instead.
Last minute winterizing was accomplished last night. In the dark. Garden statues and stepping stones are now in the garage.
The Little Princess is fearless in the snow, not like other children we have had. We just read Over and Over this week so she is particularly excited to see snow. Maybe she remembers snow from last year. It is hard to tell.
Between a breakfast of pumpkin muffins and a lunch of leftovers I planned out a menu for December featuring meatless meals on weekdays and whole chickens and feast day treats made on Sundays. Oh what fun it was to revisit holiday recipes!
Our Saturdays in December will not be great for baking due to successive performances: Violin Christmas Recital, Boy's Choir Christmas Concert, and the Little Princess will be an angel in a local production of the Nutcracker. Much of the baking will have to be done the 20th - 23rd!
We also cleaned the house for three hours. After years of doing it bit-by-bit during the week (and being rather OCD about it) I have finally lost my grip on the housework. Going back to Saturdays was dh's idea. I feel defeated, even though he is helping. Especially since he is helping.
I also spent an hour with Lime Away and rubber gloves trying to get the white cruddy rings off the base of my faucets. Sorry to say, it didn't work.
So I returned to more advent preparations by ordering this advent calendar, this Twelfth Night calendar, these St. Nicholas chocolates, this star lamp and these twelve days of Christmas ornaments. This year we are finally going to try Jotham's Journey and this Jesse Tree book. Other advent traditions will remain in place: the star path, the Jesse Tree ornaments, singing advent carols, etc.
Time to make the expected hot chocolate for my snow-covered children.
Thanks for all your replies to my questions, bty. I am totally impressed with your suggestions. I hope you are not disappointed with my intellectual curiosity! Some things are googleable and others just are not.
My little love this week:
