Looks like there's a Mini Carnival of Nightstands going on and I just can't resist entering From what I gather, Lissa may have started it with a post about getting the New Year off to a fresh start and implementing her Rule of Six. Jennifer had a good laugh at her nightstand with a "landslide of books". Books on the nightstand seem to be a common theme here . . .
So, here's mine:
What does this reveal about me? Well, first off I lie about the number of books in my reading pile. Definitely more than two and the current book club selection hasn't even made it to the pile yet!
There's the Minnesota DNR publication that my son hoards as soon as it arrives - he calls it an "animal catalog". I had to steal it back from him. I really am still reading You Are Your Child's First Teacher and enjoying every chapter. The Whitney Chronicles is penned by our Neighborhood Novelist - figured it's about time I read her work since I drive past her house almost every day. Yes, I have been trying to finish Anna since last spring even though I know how it ends. Holiness for Housewives and Prayers of St. Augustine - they are a bit far down now. The thin book is Jane Austin's Sanditon and the Watsons - I've read all her others except the Goth one. I keep meaning to read It Takes a Family by former Senator Rick Santorum for years. And at the bottom of the pile is A Mother's Almanac - I think it's about chlidren ages 6+. I'm a little behind reading up on the next stage of child development. Not as much time to research like I did when the oldest was a babe.
What else? A wedding photo and Sunshine's version of our wedding photo on the wall. Aveda hand and foot lotion - I decided I simply can't live without these product on the appropriate appendage every night. The homemade Christmas gifts from my girls and of course an assortment of baby toys for the happy hour we call "Baby O'Clock" each morning. On either side of the nightstand? Nursing pillows I no longer use for nursing. They come in handy for knitting, however!
On to the girls' room:
What do we have here? The Mary's Little Donkey we are still reading aloud, a turtle and a face made from modeling beeswax, something like "Happy Mamma's Spray" used for bringing on good dreams, a night-time blessing typed out, the Bead-By-Bead Rosary book for children, a doll's hat and some sort of coin encircled by a bracelet. I will not attempt to describe what's on the floor!
And my little boy's:
A dinosaur felt board, snow globe with a photo from when he was two, lip balm and lotion for his little chapped face, his own Christmas decoration, a light up frog, that spinning toy thing he absolutely loves, a crucifix and glass starfish. Quite the collection!
So what's on yours?
